SBASSG- Swansea Bay Asylum Seekers Support Group

Who are we?
  • A large group of asylum seekers refugees and locals working together.
  • Locals started the organisation in 2000 when we heard that asylum seekers were coming to Swansea. They were quickly joined by asylum seekers and refugees who have helped build the organisation.
  • We are a now a huge community of friends who support each other and want to support new asylum seekers are they arrive
What do we do?
  • Drop-ins every Friday and Saturday. Come and meet people from all over the world, practise your English, find out what is happening in Swansea. Tea, coffee, fruit and biscuits. Play workers to look after the children
  • Informal practical help and information. E.g. advice if you are afraid of being deported. If you don’t know where to go for help we can show you the way
  • Events, parties, outings and meetings about asylum
  • We publish refugee writing – if you have a story to tell or a poem, then we can use it to raise money for asylum seekers. If you are an asylum seeker or refugee we can give you a copy
  • Talks and hold meetings to tell people about asylum issues and to raise money and support. We need asylum seekers and refugees to help with this. Training given
  • We work with the newspapers and help them tell the public the facts about asylum
  • We work with others to improve conditions for asylum seekers and refugees
Where are we? Our Friday drop-in is between 5 and 7pm. The basement of Brunswick Church, on St Helen’s Rd, next to the Exotica supermarket. See photo on the right Our Saturday drop-in is between 2 and 5 at St Phillips Community Centre, Bathurst St, (Opposite Tescos and the Quadrant bus station. (A big white building, see photo on the right) We are a group of volunteers and friends with very little funding. We can help you find your way around Swansea, and will give you a warm welcome.
